This glamorous Sri Lankanan wedding, and Shanika and Abir’s story, proves that sometimes love comes in the most beautiful and unexpected ways. Captured by Shandro Photo, there’s now a shortage of romance, modern elegance, and stunning views.
Shanika and Abir didn’t fall in love at first sight. Abir was working as an intern at the Royal Brisbane Hospital in Australia, where Shanika had just started her third year as a medical student. The first meeting didn’t go well, but friends insisted they were meant to be. It turned out those friends were right.
But gradually the two spent more and more time together and fell in love. Abir proposed at Stamford Plaza in Brisbane following a romantic dinner. Wanting to replicate the stunning views but also making sure as many families as possible could attend, Shanika and Abir selected the Fairmont Hotel in Edmonton, CA for their dazzling urban venue.
Gold, white and navy wowed for the color scheme. For the ceremony, Shankia wore a sheath wedding dress with ornate gold embroidery and heavily embroidered illusion sleeves, while Abir looked refined in a dark navy and bow tie look.
The couple wowed again with a wardrobe change for the reception. Abir changed into a black and white tuxedo, and Shanika stunned in a strapless ballgown with a deep sweetheart neckline.
The night included traditional dancing, fresh crab legs and pots of custard, and plenty of laughter. Opulent gold tones, white roses, and gorgeous chandeliers made for a wedding from a fairytale.
