Darline and Norman’s wedding celebrated their shared Chaldean tradition, in the heart of San Diego, with details as personal and unique as their unconventional love story.
When Darline and Norman first met at a wedding, the two didn’t see eye to eye. But, in an odd coincidence, the two met again half a decade later and began to connect–a connection that led to a blossoming friendship, then romance, and a 2016 proposal in San Diego.
Paul Douda Photography documented the unique romance and vivid tradition of Darline and Norman’s wedding reception and ceremony. The couple lit unity candles and wore ceremony crowns to represent Church, Christ, and Equality. A white bow was tied between Darline and Norman to signify the groom becoming a leader for his future family. These memorable vows were exchanged before an intimate group of family and friends inside a traditional church.
The wedding dress featured exquisite embellished embroidery with a scalloped plunging neckline. An overskirt complemented the wedding veil and train for the ceremony, but was removed for dancing at the ceremony to reveal an alluring mermaid silhouette. Suits with black bow ties and lapels were chosen for groom Norman and the groomsmen, while the bridesmaids donned lilac strapless structured dresses.
Lilac and white played an oversized role in the 500 guest reception, for a vibrant celebration. From chandeliers to gold, white, oversized bouquets and purple mood lighting the stage was set for all night dancing. Candles, long tables, gold accents, and glamorous decor was accompanied with overflowing fruit and cheese trays; a plated dinner; and a jaw dropping fondant eight tier cake.
