Holiday weddings can be hard to pull off. While much beauty can be found in traditional Christmas decor, too much of it at a reception can feel theatrical, and not in a good way. The key? Taking inspiration from the warm colors of the season and adding elegant, signature twists.

That’s exactly the direction Mermaid Lake Photography took in this rustic winter shoot. Sage green and cranberry are richer, more sophisticated variations on the ubiquitous red and green of the season. They also play homage to the overall rustic feel. Set in a field with naked limb trees and a distressed wooden table provided by Nance’s Rustic Rentals, cranberry and sage tones exude the natural beauty of winter in bloom. Crimson candles, evergreen, and pine cones adorn the bridal table. Frosted wreaths dangle over the couple’s chairs.

The sage bridesmaid dresses are casually elegant, with soft lines and simple long sleeved or halter top looks. That simple elegance carries over to the bridal gown, a straight A-line with knitted flower lace long sleeves, a scalloped v-neckline and a keyhole back. To complete her look, a cranberry faux fur scarf is draped around her neck. The groom is at ease in a relaxed slate gray suit and matching cranberry tie.
