6 Wedding Makeup Tips

Makeup is the ultimate way to accentuate the beauty of the bride and create a polished appearance! Here are Diamond Bridal’s top 6 tips to ensure that your wedding makeup will have you looking and feeling confidently gorgeous!

  1. Skincare first

Perfect makeup starts with a clean palette. Taking care of your skin in the weeks leading up to the wedding will ensure that your makeup looks absolutely flawless on the day-of! We recommend getting a professional facial approximately one week in advance to remove any last minute impurities and to rejuvenate the vibrancy of skin.

In the days leading up to your wedding, be kind to your skin. Don’t pick at it, don’t try to pop any blackheads, and definitely don’t try any new skincare routines. It’s important to keep your skin moisturized and hydrated in this week, so that it will stay supple and radiant. Also be sure to apply SPF to protect from any possible damage—no matter the climate, the sun’s rays are always there!

Also, when preparing for your wedding makeup, be sure to consider the climate of your event. If you are getting married on a hot day, your face may be oily, so you will want to apply water-based solutions and have oil pads on hand. If it’s going to be a cold or rainy day, your face may be dry so you need extra moisturizers to avoid cakey makeup.

  1. Use a primer

Primers help you get a clean, even palette before applying makeup. They moisturize your skin and even out any impurities, so your makeup will go on smoother and last longer. A primer is your key to makeup that will stay on all day and all night as you celebrate your love!

Don’t forget to use an eye shadow primer to keep your color vibrant all night long!

  1. Be blushing

A blushing bride needs the right kind of blush in her makeup bag! Although all of your makeup is important on the day of your wedding, the blush is especially crucial! Blush will make your face stand out in pictures and give you a blissful glow as you enjoy your day.

We love using a cream blush for a natural, flushing look. Apply your blush to the part of your cheeks that “pop out” while your smiling. This will give you a beautiful blushing brilliance!

  1. Waterproof everything

It’s your wedding day, and that means you might cry! You don’t want makeup streaming down your face if the joyous waterworks start! Even if you don’t cry, you will likely sweat and wipe your face.

With all the activities of the wedding day, it’s important to find makeup that can handle all the emotions and fun. It’s not just waterproof mascara, but most (if not all) of your supplies should be waterproof to ensure it stays in place.

  1. Picture-ready

The camera will tone down makeup because of its lighting flash, so you want to add a little more makeup than you usually would so you aren’t washed out. You don’t want to put on too much makeup though. Start with less—you can always add more.

To look bright and awake, add shimmer powder on the inner corners of your eyes. You can also use white eyeliner on your waterline for that same brightening effect. This will make your eyes stand out in pictures without overdoing it for the actual day-of!

  1. Touch ups

It’s always a good idea to carry touch up products with you throughout the day. Makeup wipes, concealer, and mascara are lightweight supplies to have on hand to ensure you look flawless throughout your day! Give them to a bridesmaid to watch over, so you don’t have to worry about them.

Most importantly, wear makeup that you usually wear! If you don’t wear makeup often, don’t start now—go for a natural look. If you usually wear colorful eye shadow, why not wear it on your wedding day? Makeup is there to enhance you!
